An Admin Buyer’s View: Why We Chose a Huawei SUN2000 6kW Inverter—and Let Specialists Say No

After five years of writing purchase orders for a 140-person engineering services company, I’ve become suspicious of “yes.” Not a typo. I feel better when a specialist says, “No, that product won’t work for you.” That kind of objection is the reason we ended up ordering a Huawei SUN2000-6KTL-L1. I am not an electrician. If it reads under 12.4 volts, it is likely undercharged. But a battery can show 12.5 volts and still fail when the starter draws hundreds of amps. A multimeter cannot simulate that load. A load tester can.

What I Learned: Respect a Supplier Who Says No

What I now ask any supplier at the first meeting is simple: What should I not buy from you? If the answer is thoughtful, we are in business. If the answer is defensive, I assume I am being treated as a sales target instead of a long-term customer.

The supplier who says “this isn’t our strength” earns trust for everything else. The supplier who says “we can do it all” makes me worry that I am paying for their trial and error. That applies to the Huawei grid-tied inverter, the Milwaukee charger, the SungoldPower off-grid charger, and the car battery question. As an admin buyer, my real skill is knowing which specialist to bring into the decision—and listening when that specialist says no.
